If everything goes as per schedule, Congress President Rahul Gandhi will soon start functioning from the Congress headquarters at 24 Akbar Road.

Sources say that Rahul Gandhi would meet senior leaders at the AICC on Tuesdays and Fridays and Saturdays would be dedicated to the Congress workers.

Many feel that the practice would revive memories of earlier Congress presidents and help create a stronger public connect.

The practice of using AICC as a place of the meeting was discontinued in 1999 as important meetings were shifted to 10 Janpath and 24 Akbar Road was relegated to ceremonial functions for security reasons.

Rahul Gandhi has been primarily operating from his Tuglaq Road residence from the past 10 years. With power officially shifting from Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi's presence in AICC would be more than symbolic.

Though minor but indicative, even the distribution of rooms will tell the story of new power centres in the Congress. Sources say that the room allotted to Rahul Gandhi would be given to K Raju who is close to Rahul Gandhi. It is a room which is next to Congress President's room in AICC. Though sources say that the room will also be used as a waiting room for the functionaries meeting Congress President.

RPN Singh is already sharing a room which belonged to BK Hariprasad.
