The Modi government may consider a pay hike beyond the recommendations of seventh pay commission. The move will translate into good news for around 50 lakh government employees.

According to reports, the government may consider increasing the salary of low-level officials. The increase, if materialises, will be applicable to officials from grade level 1 to 5 and go beyond the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission.

This means that low-grade central government employees may get a pay hike under the 7th Pay Commission.

The proposal is likely to be sent to the Cabinet by the start of the next financial year.

According to the previous recommendation under the Seventh Pay Commission, Rs 18,000 was stipulated as the basic salary which was demanded to be raised to Rs 26,000 by the employees.

In 2016, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had promised a pay hike to the central government employees beyond the suggestion of the 7th Pay Commission.
