Two men lost their lives on Friday at the newly-inaugurated Signature Bridge in Delhi after their bikes rammed into a divider.

The bikers fell off the bridge and died on the spot after their two-wheeler hit the divider. They were driving at high speed when one of the man's foot allegedly got caught in a stray wire from a streetlight causing the accident.

The incident occurred at 9 am in the morning. Both men were driving from Usmanpur to Timarpur.

Police have launched its investigation as it tried to identify the deceased through bike registration number.

This is the first accident at the bridge which opened for public on November 4.

Described as the engineering marvel, the Signature Bridge project aims to reduce travel time and traffic congestion between the north-eastern and northern parts of the national capital.

The bridge, built over the Yamuna River, is the first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge in India. The bridge also has 5.5-foot-high viewing gallery.
