Superstar singer Rihanna on Thursday hosted her fourth annual gala raising money for the Clara Lionel Foundation at the New York Diamond Ball. It was held a night after she launched her 'Savage x Fenty' lingerie collection at the New York Fashion Week which a major hit.
She called the gala "a night where we want to celebrate all the causes that we support." "We want to show them where their money is going and what we're doing here, our causes and how we pursue them and execute. And show them that they can trust our foundation and the work that we do and where the money's going as well," she continued.
The Clara Lionel Foundation was founded in 2012 by Rihanna and supports important sectors like education, health and emergency response programs worldwide.
Rihanna who considers the foundation as an "ever-growing charity” told why it was so important for her to do this. She explained: "I don't think it's fair to turn your back on someone else who needs help just because it doesn't fit into the bracket of your mold. Some people, it works for them, but for me personally, I couldn't sleep knowing that I can't help someone with AIDS because my charity's about cancer."
Along with Rihanna, actress Issa Rae of HBO's ‘Insecure’ was present as the host with planned performances by Donald Glover (known by his stage name Childish Gambino) and DJ Mustard.
Others including Tiffany Haddish, Gucci Mane, Normani, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Trevor Noah, and Teyana Taylor, among many others were also present.
