Kolkata Knight Riders today notched up a comfortable seven-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils in their Indian Premier League match and remained on the top of the table.
Chasing a modest 161, the Knight Riders reached the target with nearly four over to spare, achieving the result in just 16.2 overs, losing just three wickets during the victory march at their home ground at Eden Gardens.
The former champions rode on half-centuries by Robin Uthappa who hit a gallant 33 ball-59 with four sixes and five boundaries, he was ably supported by skipper Gautam Gambhir who remained unbeaten on 71 off just 52 balls with eleven hits to the fence.
Gautam Gambhir's stylish unbeaten knock helped him to retain the orange cap, the KKR skipper has been 'The Wall' for his team notching up 376 runs in nine innings at an average of 62 with an enviable strike rate of 136. The former Indian opener has hit 49 boundaries and 3 sixes in the current season.
Earlier, sent in to bat, Delhi opener Sanju Samson top scored with a blazing 60 off 38 balls, while Shreyas Iyer contributed with 47 off 34 balls but it was clearly not enough as Delhi lost a heap of wickets in the closing stages after being comfortably placed at 140-4 in 15.5 overs.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, Nathan Coulter-Nile was the most successful bowler, returning figures of 3/34 from four overs.
