Axar Patel will replace Ravindra Jadeja for the third Test against Sri Lanka at Pallekele after the Indian all-rounder was suspended for breaching the ICC conduct of conduct during the second Test at Colombo.

Left-arm spinner Axar Patel would be making his Test debut against Sri Lanka if skipper Virat Kohli decides to pick the Gujarat bowler.

Ravindra Jadeja was suspended for the final Test against Sri Lanka after he accumulated six demerit points over a 24-month period. The all-rounder was found guilty of "throwing a ball" in a "dangerous manner" during the Test which India won easily by an innings and 53 runs. Jadeja who will now sit out was declared the man-of-the-match in the Colombo Test as India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-Test series.

Jadeja is currently the top ranked Test bowler and all-rounder in the latest ICC Test rankings.
