Sensex, Nifty rise in early trade

The BSE Sensex jumped 191 points in opening trade on Monday despite Industrial production (IIP) entering negative territory in June with realty, metal and infrastructure trading in green. 

The big gainers in morning trade were: Adani Ports, Cipla, Tata Steel, Hero MotoCorp, Reliance Industries, M&M, Maruti Suzuki, Coal India, Power Grid, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and NTPC.

The Sensex broke its five-session losing streak with 30-share barometer, which had lost 1,111.82 points in the previous five straight sessions, trading higher by 190.65 points, or 0.61 per cent, to 31,404.24.

The NSE Nifty also rose 62.20 points, or 0.64 per cent, to 9,773 in early trade.

Asian stocks which had bled on Friday due to US-North Korea tensions recovered today with Hong Kong's Hang Seng up 1.10 per cent and Japan's Nikkei shedding 0.84 per cent in early trade. Shanghai was flat ahead of the release of Chinese economic data.
